Obituary of Elinor M. Kreckel

Elinor M. Kreckel

Webster - Elinor passed away on November 24, 2017 at the age of 98 and was predeceased by her loving husband Pat and sisters Jessie and Jean.

She grew up on Lexington Avenue with her parents Clara and Clark Grace and had a keen memories of her childhood. She could name and recount stories of her days at John Marshall High School and the boys that she dated. Elinor was the only one in her family to go to college and attended Brockport State where she received a degree in teaching. During the summer she worked at Sibley's where she met her future husband Pat.

After graduation she secured a job in Cattarauges in a one room school house and soon after became a wartime bride having given birth to her first child Patricia, while Pat was fighting overseas.

After the war her second daughter Kathryn was born. Raising two young children during the fifties on little money was difficult but she found her release in attending movies and becoming an avid reader, interests which continued throughout her life.

She loved to travel and managed to plan trips on a very small budget to places like the Adirondacks, Cape Cod, New York City, and Montreal. As her children grew older she returned to teaching kindergarten at St. James School near their home on Brockley Road in Irondequoit. Both her daughters followed in her foot- steps and became teachers. After her daughter Kathy married Joe Kelly she be- came a grandmother and flourished in the role. She took her two grandsons Jody and Tucker on trips to Disneyworld.

The winters that she and Pat spent in their condo in Clearwater Florida were happy ones. She loved to go to garage sales and plan luncheons for her friends. Since Elinor never drove she was a frequent rider on the RTC buses and devoted her time to volunteering at Family Service, St. Mary's Hospital, and Plank Road School after moving to Webster.

Her oldest grandson Jody married Sandy and together they gave her two great- granddaughters Sarah and Sophie. And Tucker and his wife Jen gave her a great -grandson Benjamin followed by his sister Claire. They called her GG and routinely received packages in the mail filled with surprises.

Her last years were spent at Maplewood Nursing home where her friends and relatives visited her. Elinor was under the care of a devoted and loving staff and her weekly visitor Kathleen Dalton.
